This is my back yard at 1:30 pm today. There is a nice, light rain that has stayed persistent and the valley is full of fog and mist. The photo doesn’t do it justice. That stuff is thick out there. What my kids used to call “Silent Hill Fog.”
Before I knew the rain would be this impressive today, I woke up thinking someone had literally spoken in my bedroom, right next to my ear, “Something is coming.” For the first time in literally decades, I currently live in a Haunted AF house, so there is always a reasonable chance (reasonable for a Witch) that something was said. My house was built in 1994, so it does not have nearly enough years on it for this many spirits to have come from home events (theoretically speaking), but it does feel like we are a hotspot.
“Something is coming.”
I felt the burgeoning energy, like a a pressure, pushing into my consciousness. Our brains tend to register change as something bad or potentially bad, scanning for any sign of danger or inconvenience it might bring. It could just as easily be something good and wildly beneficial but we don’t work that way, do we?
To me, true enlightenment and actualization is not the ability to meditate for four hours straight or astral travel at will. It is about knowing yourself so well that you can immediately sense when something is different in your energy or the energy around you and - the most important part - to master your response so that your reaction to the change is the healthiest and most beneficial it can be.
Our emotions want so desperately to rule us and in truth, we get to decide how we respond to pretty much anything. The response pushes through every filter we have so that by the time it manifests, sometimes in seconds, it is colored by our past failures, fears, and traumas. This keeps the response from feeling organic and we feel at the mercy of all the terrors those past experiences created in us.
As living beings, it is in our nature to scan for threats. This helps to keep us alive for the most part. If we can spot a danger early on, it may be easier to manage and subdue. Unlearning that natural instinct to be hypervigilant for every threat, real and imagined, is one of the most valuable gifts we can give ourselves.
Not that we shouldn’t be cautious, but life should be more than worry, fear, apprehension, and anxiety. We should be able to just be even if - and sometimes especially if - we are under some kind of threat. We can experience the moment as its own individual happening, cut away from the conditioning of our past traumas, if we consciously realign our thoughts and just try. We are in charge of our emotional responses, not the other way around and in fact, emotions are like the weather: if we want a bit and let the world turn a time or two, both will inevitably change.
Eric and I tried to think of ways that we could help people manage those times when emotions feel out of control and we can’t find our place of balance. For us, the best way to shift energy when we feel overwhelmed is to first, get a spiritual cleansing. This gives you an energetic reset and returns your energy to its natural baseline without influences from outside sources. It removes any extraneous energy that might contribute to the drama of the moment.
After that, it’s all about the candle work. Holding smooth, dark stones is highly beneficial and quickly grounds excess energy, but the candle will continue to work its magic even when you are not consciously thinking about it. The candle gives you 3-5 days of heavy magical influence as it completes its burn.
For candle labels that help get us back in our bodies with good emotional balance, we came up with these:
CTFO is an acronym for “Chill The F*** Out” and it encourage just that. Go to your happy place. Remember that like a kidney stone, “This too shall pass.” Let stillness be OK while you figure out what comes next. Embrace the chill.
It’s true. When we focus on what in our lives we are grateful to have, our energy shifts in a profound way. We have to truly feel the gratitude, not just say the words. In times of trauma, it can be difficult to dig deep and find the gratitude, but the more we can manage to do so, even for the simplest things we take for granted, the more our stress and tension loses hold on us.
To Mother Earth my roots do run.
My branches reach to Father Sun.
Anchored in their firm embrace,
Back to the mortal world I race.
Bringing with me all I learn
From the sacred quest I do return.
To physical world I bind my tether
To stones and water, fire and weather.
So Mote It Be.
This candle grounds you, gives you back your emotional centeredness, and helps you get out of your own head.
The name says it all.
Sometimes, we have to “Let go and let God.” We believe we know what is best for us and we control and manipulate and chase all of those elements that we believe are important for us to finally find happiness. This candle releases all of that and says, “Just bring me what I need to live my best life.” Then we relax into what happens next and whatever comes, we trust it is for our best and highest good.
Lastly, our Root Chakra is where are insecurities, fears, and anxieties live. We must feel safe, confident, competent, and capable enough to trust that we can work in harmony with our life experiences instead of feeling as if they are something inflicted on us. That isn’t just Pop Psych babble. It works.

Eric and I hope all of you are doing well and having a wonderful Spring. During the time I was writing this to you, the rain stopped and the sun is now peeping out. It’s like the weather itself is showing off that it is as changeable as our emotional forecast. :)
